Graig D. Brown, DDS, MS
Dr. Brown is a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology. The American Board of Periodontology is one of the nine dental specialty boards recognized by the American Dental Association.
Board Certification is a voluntary process that provides an intensive independent evaluation of a periodontists education and clinical comprehension.
Certification as a Diplomate demonstrates a special and unique accomplishment that can require an additional two to three years from post graduate training. Today only fifty percent of practicing Periodontists are Diplomates of the AAP.
Dr. Brown received his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the University of Iowa, College of Dentistry in 1984. He practiced General Dentistry in the US Air Force for nine years prior to his specialty training in Periodontics. In 1990, he completed post-graduate advanced Education in Periodontics at Wilford Hall Medical Center, Lackland Air Force Base, Texas.
Dr. Brown completed his specialty training in Periodontics in 1996, where he earned his Master of Science in Periodontics from the University of Texas Health Sciences Center at San Antonio and his Certificate in Periodontics from Wilford Hall Medical Center, Lackland Air Force Base, Texas. He successfully challenged the American Board of Periodontology to become a Board Certified Diplomate in 1997. Dr. Brown served seventeen years on active duty with the United States Air Force. He retired after twenty two years of active duty and reservist activity from the Arizona Air National Guard in 2005. He received the following recognitions while serving his country:
- Air Force Meritorious Service Medal
- Air Force Commendation Medal, Second Oak Leaf Cluster
- Air Force Achievement Medal
Dr. Brown is a member of the American Academy of Periodontology, American Dental Association, and Southern Arizona Dental Association.
He also serves as adjunct faculty at Pima Community College in the Department of Dental Hygiene/Allied Health Professions. He has been on the Pima faculty since 1999 teaching the Introduction to Periodontics course to first year dental hygiene students.
